If you take an Interview
An Interview is a voice call with Ground, an AI interviewer, about a product idea. It's run for a team: the company named on the invitation.
What Ground collects:
- What you type on the invitation: your name, company and email.
- The call: a recording of your voice and Ground's, and a written transcript of it.
- What you do on the Sketch: what you click, check and type.
- When you pressed Start, as the record that you agreed to the recording.
- Technical details that keep the room working: errors, your browser and device type, and your country.
Who sees it: the team that invited you, in their Ground workspace, where they listen to the recording and read the transcript and Ground's note on it. Artem sees it too, to keep Ground running and fix what goes wrong. Ground doesn't sell it, doesn't use it for ads, and doesn't show it to other teams.
Your email is never given to the AI model. The team may use it to thank you or follow up about the Interview.
Why: to run the Interview you agreed to and give the team what you said. Pressing Start is your consent; you can leave the call at any time with Leave Interview.
If you use Ground for your team
Ground keeps your account (name, email, sign-in), your workspace, and what you write there: Research, Sketches, questions, chat with Ground's Agent, and the Interviews your Respondents give. You decide what your Research asks and who you send the link to; Ground runs the Interviews and keeps them for you. You're responsible for telling your Respondents who you are, and Ground's invitation tells them the call is recorded and goes to you.
Who else handles it
Ground uses these services to run. Each gets only what its part needs.
- Google (Gemini API): the voice and the model that runs the Interview, hears and transcribes the call, and writes Research and findings. Ground uses Gemini's paid API; under Google's terms for it, Google doesn't use this data to improve its products.
- Your browser's speech recognition: while you talk, the room uses your browser's built-in speech recognition to show what you're saying on screen. Chrome and Edge send that audio to Google, Safari to Apple. It's only for the live caption; the transcript Ground keeps comes from the call.
- Amazon Web Services, in the United States (us-east-1): the server, and the storage for recordings, transcripts, backups and logs.
- Cloudflare: the network in front of groundwhy.com, and the landing page.
- Auth0 (Okta): signing in to a team's workspace.
- Resend: email, such as invitations to a workspace and access requests.
Your data is stored in the United States. If you're in the EU or the UK, it's moved there under these providers' standard contractual clauses.
How long it's kept
Interviews, recordings and workspaces are kept until the team that ran the Research or you ask for them to be deleted. Deleted data leaves the backups within 30 days. Server logs are deleted after 90 days.
Your rights
You can ask to see what Ground has about you, correct it, or delete it: email artem@artemkurylo.com from the address you used, and say which Interview or account it's about. It's done within 30 days. If you're in the EU or the UK, you can also complain to your data protection authority.
Cookies
The landing page and the Interview room set no tracking cookies. A team's workspace uses a sign-in cookie to keep you signed in.
